Tesla Model S is the undisputed king of the drag strip. While many cars wont have any trouble outrunning it over long distances, nothing can touch it on the quartermile in Ludicrous modenot even supercars like the almighty Lamborghini Aventador SV. But now the Tesla Model S has finally met its match on the quartermile. Afterhumiliating a Lamborghini Huracan and setting an insanely fast halfmile time that hypercar owners would envy, the mighty McLaren 720S has once again proven that its a serious force to be reckoned with.

After posting an astonishing halfmile time, DragTimes has pitted the McLaren 720S against the Tesla Model S P100D in a quartermile drag race. To put things into context, the drag race was done in reaction to Motor Trends Worlds Greatest Drag Race, in which the Model S beat the likes of the Porsche Turbo S, Ferrari 488 GTB and McLaren 570GT.

Brook from DragTimes felt that the McLaren 720S should have been in the competition instead of the 570GT since its a direct competitor to the 488 GTB, so decided to see how it fared against the worlds fastest 062 mph production car. Predictably, the McLaren 720S makes mincemeat out of the Tesla Model S. We thought the Model S would gain an early lead with Ludicrous mode, only for the 720S to gradually catch up and snatch the lead close to the finish line. But it doesntit absolutely annihilates the Model S almost immediately off the line and leaves it for dust. The best part? The McLaren 720S is nearly half the price of the Lamborghini Aventador SV that the Tesla Model S previously beat.

Elon Musk isnt going to be happy.
DragTimes has pledged to pit the McLaren 720S against the Porsche 918 Spyder in a future drag race. Now that should be interesting. At this rate, its going to take a hypercar like a Pagani or Koenigsegg to outrun the McLaren 720S, which is a testament to its underrated performance.
